Further Government measures to cut regulation

Government ministers have announced a further set of measures to abolish or consolidate what it considers to be unnecessary or confusing regulations, including:

  • helping house builders by cutting 100 ‘overlapping or confusing standards applied by councils to new homes.’  Any remaining necessary standards will, so far as possible, be consolidated into the Building Regulations;
  • making it easier and cheaper for businesses to meet environmental obligations, reducing 100,000 pages of environmental guidance by over 80%; and
  • replacing a paper based recording system for waste with an electronic system.
