The Government is introducing a new approach to economic development in England, which will give businesses and local communities new freedoms to drive growth. Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) are at the heart of this. HTF have recognised the importance of this and have already begun to engage with LEPs, with an engagement event held in London in April - see the programme, and further events planned for the North and the East of England in July - register interest in attending.
Formed by businesses and local authorities, LEPs will be tasked with providing the vision and strategic leadership to drive sustainable private sector-led growth and job creation in their area.
The Government have developed a ‘toolbox’ to help LEPs to pursue their priorities. The toolbox provides information on economic development activity across government departments and sets out possible avenues for LEP/Government cooperation. Once LEPs have identified their priorities, they can use the toolbox to ensure that their work dovetails effectively with activity led at the national level.
